The Sick Lion/이솝우화

 

One day an old, old lion realized

that he was too old to hunt for food.

The lion was sure he would soon die.

He was very sad and went home.

As he walked slowly home,

the lion told a bird about his sad situation.

Soon everyone in the forest heard

about the lion's sad situation.

The other animals felt sorry for the lion.

So one by one they came to visit the lion.

The lion was old and week, but very wise.

As each anima came into his home,

they were easy to catch and eat.

Soon the old lion became happy and fat.

One day, early in the moming, the fax came.

The fox was very wise,too.

He slowly came close to the lion's home.

Standing outside, he asked if the lion was feeling better.

"Hello, my best frind." said the lion.

"Is it you? I can't see you very well.

You're so far away.

Come clower, please, and tell me some kind words

because I am old, and will die woon."

While the lion was talking,

the fox was looking closely at the ground i

n front of the lion's home.

Finally the fox looked up, and said to the lion.

"I am sorry, but I must go.

I am very nerbous because I see the footsteps

or mant animals going into your home,

but I see none coming out anain!"

He is very wise who is warned by the misfortunes of others.

 

아픈 사자/이솝우화

 

어느 날 늙고 늙은 사자가 자신은

더이상 사냥하기에 늙었다는 것을 깨달았어요.

사자는 자기가 곧 죽을 것이란 것을 알았어요.

그는 몹시 슬퍼져 집으로 돌아왔죠.

집에 오면서, 사자는 새 한마리에게

자신의 슬픈 처지를 털어놓았어요.

곧 숲 속의 모든 동물들이 사자의 슬픈 상황을 알게 되었죠.

다른 동물들은 사자가 불쌍해졌어요.

그래서 한 마리씩 사자를 보러 갔죠.

사자는 늙고 약했지만, 굉장히 현명했어요.

자신의 집으로 오는 동물들은 모두 잡아먹기 쉬웠죠.

곧 늙은 사자는 뚱뚱해졌고 행복해졌어요.

하루는 아침 일찍 여우가 왔어요

여우 역시 굉장히 현명했죠.

그는 천천히 사자의 집 가까이 갔어요.

밖에 서서 그는 사자에게 좀 괜찮아 졌느냐고 물었어요.

"안녕하신가 나의 베프여" 사자가 말했어요

"자네 맞는가? 너무 멀리 있어 잘 보이지가 않는다네.

부탁이니 조금 더 가까이 와 주겠나,

그리고 너무 늙어버려 곧 죽을 나에게 몇마디 좋은 말이나 건네주게"

사자가 말하는 동안 여우는 사자의 집 앞의 땅을 자세히 쳐다보았어요.

마침내 여우는 고개를 들고, 사자에게 말했어요.

"미안하지만, 가 보아야 하겠네.

나는 지금 굉장히 불안하다네

왜냐하면 자네 집 안으로 들어가는 발자국은 있어도 나오는 것이 없으니 말이야!"

 

다른 이들의 불행을 통해 경고받을 수 있는 이는 굉장히 현명한 사람이다.
