The Horse And The Groom (말과 사육사)/ 이솝우화

 

There was once a Groom who used to spend long hours clipping

and combing the Horse of which he had charge,

 

but who daily stole a portion of his allowance of oats,

and sold it for his own profit.

 

The Horse gradually got into worse and worse condition,

and at last cried to the Groom,

 

"If you really want me to look sleek and well,

you must comb me less and feed me more."

 

옛날에 말의 털을 다듬고

빗질하는 일을 하는 사육사가 있었는데,

 

매일 말 먹이인 귀리를 훔쳐서 돈을 챙겼다.

 

그 말은 점점 야위어져, 말 사육사에게 말했다.

 

"당신이 내가 토실토실 살찌고 건강해지길 원한다면,

빗질을 덜 하고 먹이를 더 주어야 해요."
